METTE
For METTE, the route to music was circuitous but destined.
Now, she has found herself ready to emerge with music that explores tender emotions, complex feelings, and her life’s narrative.
METTE has been having a standout 2023 since the release of ‘Mama’s Eyes’. The track hit #1 in the UK Club Chart, amassed over 3 million streams, and garnered key tastemaker support from BBC Radio 1, Clara Amfo, The Face, NME, Clash, Elle, The Line of Best Fit, DIY, The Fader, The Guardian and more. Not stopping there, 2023 has also seen METTE grace the covers of Notion, BEAT and Hunger. She also picked up three awards at the 2023 UK VMAs for her music video for ‘Mama’s Eyes’, including the coveted Video of the Year nod.
Her single ‘VAN GOGH’ propelled her another bold leap forward on her artistic journey, Co-produced by Mike Sabath (Raye, Lizzo) and Jonny Lattimer (Rina Sawayama, Joy Crookes), METTE cites icons like Janet Jackson as she sings about finding creative inspiration through the any muses who live within. However, her biggest artistic statement came with the arrival of her debut EP ‘METTENARRATIVE.’ “My EP is a collection of songs that light up a constellation of my artistry,” says METTE. “These aural portraits seek to convey my ideals, my fantasies, and my most intimate thoughts through intersectional and multi-genre sound. Bringing this work to the world conjures the most insurmountable gratitude – I feel alive like never before. The journey to this project’s completion has been nearly 5 years long. . . and I have no regrets for taking my time, garnering my skills, and honing my intentions.”
The seven track project includes previous singles ‘MAMA’S EYES’ and ‘VAN GOGH,’ an intro track, ‘METTE INTRO’, as well as four new songs, ‘FOR THE PEOPLE’, ‘CHOCOLATE CITY’, ‘PSYCHO’ and ‘ACID RAIN’. Ultimately, it showcases METTE’s raw vocal talent, signature catchy hooks, introspective lyricism and multifaceted artistry drawing on themes of power, softness, honesty, nobility, and vulnerability which cements her position as one of the most exciting artists right now and into 2024.
METTE’s live presence has also taken centre stage this year. She was hand picked to feature on the iconic Later… With Jools Holland earlier this year. In October, she sold out her debut headline shows to rapturous crowds at The Lower Third in London, Baby’s All Right in Brooklyn, and Moroccan Lounge in LA, before joining Mercury Prize Award nominated Jessie Ware on her UK autumn tour, including two dates at London’s iconic Alexandra Palace.
METTE has been on a journey – and with the ability to tap into these creative outlets – she has found her true essence. And not only is she dancing to that essence, she’s turned it into music, too.
